Santa Monica Yoga Teacher Training
200-Hour Course with Shari
Friedrichsen, Nancy Goodstein and Kyra Haglund
SMY's Teacher Training is Yoga Alliance approved.
Begins September 15, 2008
Free Information Session Saturday, September 6,
9:00-10:30 am
With
this training you will take a journey into yoga, yourself and life and you will
learn the art of teaching.
You
will:
- Stretch
your knowledge and practice of yoga asana, pranayama and meditation
- Explore
the history and philosophy of yoga by delving into the ancient texts
- Study
anatomy in the gross and subtle forms
- Learn
the fundamentals of the poses and how to articulate and communicate this knowledge to
others
- Unlock
the energetics of sequencing
- Develop
your teaching style and cultivate your authentic inner voice through practice teaching
Whether
you decide to use this intensive training to teach or for a more personal exploration of
yourself and yoga, at the conclusion of this training, you will have a grounded and
balanced knowledge of yoga, a more complete understanding of yourself, and the training to
stand up and teach this great gift of yoga.
The teacher
training was wonderful, challenging, fun, and scary. The teachers were awesome
honest and loving, and each
brought her own unique flavor and experience. Even if you don't want to teach yoga (and
you may change your mind!) I recommend this class as a way to deepen your practice and
unravel a few layers of yourself along the way.

Shari
Friedrichsen
Shari
has been teaching yoga for over 30 years. Her passion for yoga has taken her to Europe, India,
Nepal and throughout the US to study with well-known and respected teachers in all aspects
of yoga.
For
the last 20 years her deep exploration of the chakra system has refined her experience of
yoga and has greatly inspired her teaching. For 18 years her in-depth study of meditation
under the guidance of two masters from India has informed and strengthened her teaching.
Shari
began training teachers in 1990 in Portland, Oregon, and conducts regular trainings in Seattle
and at the Himalayan Institute. She teaches classes and workshops in Honesdale, Las Vegas,
Seattle, Cedar City and at Santa Monica Yoga. She has published two articles on asanas in Yoga
International magazine and one on the Yoga Sutras in the Seattle & Eastside
Yoga Quarterly. In 2004 she was the Art of Asana model for Yoga
International and twice was the cover model for the same magazine.
Nancy
Goodstein
Nancy began meditation, pranayama, and bandha study
with Alan Finger, and was chosen and trained by him to teach 18 years ago. Fourteen years
ago, she was introduced to Ashtanga yoga by Dena Kingsburg. She is now an advanced
Ashtanga practitioner and also studies with Pattabhi Jois, from whom she has obtained
permission to teach.
Nancy has taught continuing classes at Yoga
Zone in NYC, Santa Monica Yoga, and at Yoga Works in Los Angeles, where she also obtained
teaching accreditation. She regularly leads workshops at Santa Monica Yoga and other
studios in the L.A. area.
Nancy has taught top celebrities, as well as many
people with special needs, and has been a yoga model for an array of ad campaigns,
including Reebok, Athletica and Toyota.
She was very proud to make videos for SportsSkool, ranging from flow to core strength to
restorative. They focused on helping young people use yoga to find self esteem and
well-being.
The only job Nancy has loved as much as being a
yoga teacher is being a mother, but finds they are both a little hard on the back.
Kyra
Haglund
Kyra
teaches yoga in a compassionate, knowledgeable, and energetic manner. She views yoga as a
multilayered journey that inspires greater understanding of and connection to the true
Self within. She draws on her background as a dancer to evoke inner grace and balance in a
safe, creative environment.
Kyra
lived and studied in both India and Nepal, having practiced extensively with Pattabhi Jois
and Sharath Rangaswamy. She also received certification to teach from Acharya V. Venkatesh
of the Atma Vikasa Center in Mysore, India. Most recently, she has had the privilege of
studying with and assisting Max Strom. Kyras classes are holistic explorations of
the mind, body and spirit.
