Santa Monica
Yoga offers a broad range of classes in yoga and complementary disciplines for every
level of student. Our caring staff of teachers brings years of experience to every class.
It is our goal that you feel welcomed, nurtured and challenged here.
Daniela Ardalla teaches an
integrative and exploratory style of yoga movement based on ancient and modern techniques
which enhance our well being and connect us with our inner self. Her classes offer a
non-invasive and progressive approach to movement, leading you towards appreciating your
body as it is and accepting growth and evolution. Danielas class is taught in
English and Spanish.
Ann Barbour teaches
Pilates and GYROKINESISŪ with the goal of continually developing new ways to approach movement,
instruction, and communication. Ann believes there should always be inherent beauty and
flow in even the most difficult movements and an ability to work without strain.
Leslie Bogart focuses on the therapeutic potential
of yoga. She specializes in working with beginners and with people who are recovering from
illness or injury. Leslie is trained as a nurse and has extensive physical therapy
experience.
Nathalie
Canessa uses her knowledge in various styles of hatha yoga, dance, and vedic
meditation to create a meditative, slower, vinyasa (flow) style class with emphasis on
breath and alignment. She assists her students in finding their own Ritam (rhythm or
evolution), balancing flexibility and strength, to move with grace, and to connect to the
joy that resides within us. Her main teachers and influences are Max Strom, Saul
David Raye and her late father, who taught her to always notice the beauty in nature.
Mary Donovan creates a knowledgeable, inspiring
environment to respectfully awaken the wisdom of body, mind and spirit. A teacher at
Santa Monica Yoga for eight years, her gentler flow-style classes devote attention to
alignment and breath, and are influenced by the Iyengar and Ashtanga traditions.
Mary draws on her training as a mind-body healer and psychotherapist to create a sacred
space to open and renew.
Jennifer Edwards is
a certified Iyengar yoga teacher. She has
studied with BKS Iyengar in India and at the 2005 Yoga Journal Estes Park Iyengar
Intensive. She is a graduate of the three-year Teacher Training Program at the Iyengar
Yoga Institute of Los Angeles, and served as vice president of the Iyengar Yoga
Association of Southern California. Jennifer
is a dedicated practitioner who has taught at studios throughout L.A. She approaches teaching with reverence, precision,
assurance, humor, and personal joy. Her
classes focus on the essentials of yoga and offer students the opportunity to experience
first hand the many benefits of yoga.
Gimel
Everett
has been a yogini for thirty years, and speaks from experience when she says yoga is self
therapy. If you want strength, courage, balance, joy; if you need to reduce stress,
relieve heartache, get through trauma or spur creativity; if you want to heal, increase
vitality/immunity, grow younger and more authentically beautiful; yoga works- it's
scientific, it's spiritual, it's personal. Gimel is a living example of what she teaches.
Her classes are intuitive, breath inspired blends of vinyasa flow, Anusara and tantric
yoga.
Cindy Fraser teaches a slow, deep practice
influenced by Taoist and hatha yoga principles, offering students of all levels the
opportunity to explore the power and the beauty of body and breath. A yoga practice of 15
years brought Cindy to teaching.
Laura
Gideon has been a part of the exercise industry for the past 25 years as a
fitness business owner, certified group fitness instructor and IM=X certified Pilates
trainer & mat class instructor. She also earned her Masters Degree in Exercise
Science from SCSU in 1997. Laura brings to her class a unique blend of strength and
flexibility from the teachings of J.H. Pilates in addition to incorporating the principles
of postural alignment from the Alexander Technique. Her class is designed to accommodate
all levels with encouragement toward advancement in an injury-free setting.
Nancy Goodstein has been teaching yoga for 15 years.
Now, as a student of Pattabhi Jois, she focuses on Ashtanga yoga. The method
is a highly disciplined continuous flow, which creates a meditative mind and develops a
strong body. Nancy asks her students to work very hard, while keeping a sense of
humor about it.
Kyra
Haglund teaches hatha-raja yoga in a compassionate, knowledgeable, and energetic
manner. She views yoga as a multilayered journey that inspires greater understanding of
and connection to the true self within. She draws on her background as a dancer to evoke
inner grace and balance in a safe, creative environment.
Keri
Lee has been a practitioner of Iyengar yoga under the guidance of Mary Dunn, Lisa
Walford, Marla Apt, Anna Delury and Kevin Gardiner. In
addition to her yoga, Keri has danced in a number of Broadway shows. For nine years she
studied and taught the movement principles of the Yoshida Technique, with its creator,
Martha Yoshida as well as ballet for Finis Jhung at the Broadway Dance Center in New York.
She has a BA in English. Her passion is overly apparent in her teaching filled with joy,
precision, humor and clarity.
Guin Lyster received her teacher training
from senior yoga instructor Rod Stryker six years ago and since then has continued her
studies through various workshops with renowned teachers. Guin's teaching blends the
fluidity and strength of a traditional hatha flow practice with strong emphasis on
alignment of the poses. Guin's compassion and caring attitude have gained her strong
support and rapport with her students.
Dana Marcoux teaches
a hatha flow class which resonates with his 25 years experience with meditation, yoga, and
shamanic practices. Open up your awareness to the body's energetic centers with intent,
breath and music. Open to all levels, be prepared to sweat, be energized and inspired.

Catherine McDonough is a Family Nurse Practitioner and has been in
practice since 1984. She has been practicing and studying yoga since 1982. Numerous
teacher trainings and one certification program led to her opening The Yoga Center in 1994
in Billings Montana. She taught at that studio for 10 years before returning to her home
town of Los Angeles. Catherine specializes in
therapeutic yoga for many medical problems and concerns. She
is enthusiastic, and has a practical approach when teaching postures, with the aim of
helping students incorporate yoga in daily life at home and at work. Enjoys teaching!
Katherine Newmark teaches restorative yoga that,
with the use of props and breath, gently opens the body, soothes the nervous system,
clears the brain and nourishes the spirit. Stress reducing, heart opening and balancing to
the system, restorative yoga is a desirable practice for L.A. city dwellers.
Sasha Papovich teaches an integrated practice of yoga, meditation, and
breathwork. Her classes are known to inspire personal transformation through their healing
blend of enlivening asana, philosophical depth, and compassionate awareness. Sasha trained extensively with Ana Forrest and
Julian Walker. She currently studies yoga, buddhism, and psycho-spiritual inquiry with

Romy Phillips utilizes her training in various yoga styles,
especially Anusara, to create a welcoming class that places an emphasis on developing a
firm foundation for an individual yoga practice. Students are encouraged to explore
principles of alignment through the use of breath & language that will help them to
achieve the full expression of each pose.
Leslie
Porter has been dedicated
to yoga ever since falling in love with it 15 years ago. In her classes she creates an
accepting and playful environment for students of all ages and levels to discover their
own unique radiance and wisdom. In addition to being a gifted teacher, Leslie is also a
committed student, having trained and/or worked with in hatha yoga with Ana Forrest,
Judith Lasater, John Friend, kundalini yoga with Yoga West, and meditation with Jack

Deborah
Raoult is a yoga and Continuum Movement teacher whose primary interest is
exploring the dynamics of breath and motion as gateways to freedom. Deborah has expertise
working with women throughout the life stages. She has a special love of the childbearing
cycle. She supports women and their families, celebrating pregnancy, labor and parenting
as powerful rites of passage that transform our relationship to body, community and the
Earth.
Shayna
Reid is
a certified Forrest yoga instructor, licensed massage therapist and craniosacral
practitioner. She specializes in pregnancy massage and craniosacral work.
Shayna has been studying various types of yoga since the age of 20, and upon
completing her teacher training, she participated in a two-year apprenticeship for

Felice
Rhiannon has been involved with complimentary healing, the study of
consciousness, and relaxation and meditation practices for over three decades. Yoga became
a passion for Felice in her 40s as she explored the remarkable healing aspects of yoga
practice. In her classes, Felice includes multiple aspects of yoga: physical postures,
breathing and meditative techniques, guided imagery, and deep inner awareness.
Michael
Sieverts is a cancer survivor who has used qi gong forms to recapture his health.
He learned healing qi gong forms from Master Wen Mei Yu, and continues to study with

Robyn Shumacher teaches an energetic class, using her eclectic
background to creatively engage students. She emphasizes conscious breathing to inspire,
enhance and support the student's focus and attitude, while encouraging physical
expression and exploration. Robyn is a certified yoga instructor and has training in and
experience with various styles of yoga including hatha, Iyengar, kundalini and Anusara.
Rebecca Simons continually educates herself in the many different
approaches to Pilates and strives to enhance the health, fitness and overall well-being of
each student. No matter what your health goals are or what level you are at, Rebecca will
find an approach that's right for you. Her background includes a variety of movement-based
expressions such as modern dance, jazz, ballet,tai kiun do and tai qi. Each class will
integrate this knowledge resulting in a complete fitness experience.
Elizabeth
St. Clair has taught traditional kundalini yoga at Santa Monica Yoga since 1996. Her classes are joyous they empower the
body, mind and spirit through asana, pranayama and meditation. She is a certified Relax and Renew Trainer and has
trained in Yoga ASSIST for cancer patients at LMU where she is pursuing certification in
yoga philosophy. Elizabeth is also deeply
involved in using yoga to benefit those with Alzheimers and brain injuries.
Daniel Stewart studies yoga and other
wisdom traditions to explore the practice of becoming fully alive in each moment.
His playful, heart-centered teaching, combines alignment, meditative breath, music
and spirit, in vigorous vinyasa-flow classes that encourage students to quiet their minds
and reconnect to themselves, releasing energy for renewal and joy. For more

Sarah
Umi Virello brings an eclectic knowledge of World dance, Physical
theatre, and Yoga as pathways to free expression. She
has completed yoga training with Erich Schiffmann, Max Strom, and Shiva Rea. Her travels to study and teach dance include NYC, Japan,
Brazil, and Cuba.
Amanda White
is an Iyengar yoga teacher and graduate of the Iyengar Yoga Institute of L.A.
three-year teacher training program. She has studied under the guidance of Manouso
Manos, Marla Apt, Sue Garfield and Jim Benvenuto. It is her vision to share
the thoughtful and evolutionary process of yoga with everyone who studies alongside her. Come study with Amanda and experience her

Hilary
White
blends vinyasa, alignment and mindfulness to create an awakened state in which breath and
movement are synchronized. Hilarys
classes facilitate strength and flexibility and a deep sense of opening and ease in body,

Julian Walker has been teaching yoga since 1994 and brings a fascination with
psyche, spirit and healing transformation to his work. He was mentored and certified
by Ana Forrest, has studied extensively with energy master Vincent Saporito and is
co-creator of the Core Sequencing system that integrates yoga, bodywork, emotional healing
and nutritional counseling. His classes are sweaty, energetic, stretchy and meditative,

Jane
Zingale is a hands-on instructor with training and experience in various styles
of yoga including Iyengar, hatha and kundalini. Her
classes are energetic and strength-building with an emphasis on conscious breathing to
promote the students' focus. Warming the body
from the inside out, she guides the students' attention to form and alignment while
lengthening the spine and caring for the lower back.
